Dumb Decisions.

Normally lead to a BAD END. Without being specific, marrying for convenience is a bad idea. Don’t do it. You know i’m talking to you. Seriously. Think long and hard.. think years into the future. IT’S A DUMB DECISION.

Now onto anime and the dumb decisions we can see in them. PRETTY MUCH EVERY ANIME I HAVE SEEN features characters making DUMB DECISIONS. It’s inescapable if you are male, single, a loser and or have purple hair.

If there was a way to describe how infuriating these moments are, i’m sure it would involve loud noises, throwing of items, death threats, booze, swearing and most likely a grilled sandwich.

Tell me what that bread is in the shape of and you earn yourself a beer.

This happens in real life too. Take for example Johnny. Johnny was a good boy, he went to school everyday, he did his homework, his chores and he did as he was told. One day Johnny thought it might be fun to say hi to those kids who hang around the back of the school “fighting” as they called it. Johnny was excited to be part of this event and was quickly in with the rest. Unfortunately, Johnny had assumed weapons were allowed and proceeded to stab his opponents to death.

Ok so that was fiction. The point is dumb decisions occur all the time and they are fun to laugh at. Like when someone accidently sends financial data that could land a company $43 million on the wrong side of the profit line.

Let’s be serious though. There are ways in which to avoid making these decisions.

Number one… ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR FRIENDS ON THE INTERNET. Real people are full of crap.

Number two… make sure you always choose the middle option. Remember you are there to lead, not to read.

Number three… if Hiromi gets a train at 8am on the Keiyō line heading towards Soga at what point in her journey will she become a victim of chikan.

If you follow these three steps and calculate the minimum amount of anime episodes you need to see to reach OTAKU-JIJI status, you will suceed. Also if you happen to be a fan of crazy anime and lolis don’t forget to check out Kyouran Kazoku Nikki. It’s brilliant. Also the end of the Anime Blog Awards is nigh so go vote.

It’s amazing what you will do…

Ok, so yesterday at work I was completely useless. I mean I was way beyond lazy. I spent the entire day chatting and browsing for anime pictures. Then JUSTICE striked at about 1pm and I got this killer headache. After some painkillers and some water I felt better but not 100%. Anywho I made my way home and GUESS WHAT! ZOMG the red wine was killer, my headache returned with a vengence. But anyways that was a nice side story.

I’ve had another idea for a site. Somewhat like Digg I guess in the way the voting works. But the idea being that whatever is HAWT basically is sitting at the top of a page. You know what.. i’m going to have to do a mockup to explain it. The idea being that things like memes, characters and shows can all be added into the voting cycle and we can either vote something as hot or not. Kind of like a gauge on what everyone thinks is cool.

Normally this would be determined in a more organic way via the blogs and irc channels. I’m thinking that if we pick off the gems from these awesome places then we might have a fun wee site to play with.

IN THE NAME OF…

Justice? Peace? Unquestionable Faith? I think not my friends. It’s all in the name of WAR, LOLIS and COMEDY. In spite of what you may think, these three things make the best combination when it comes to anime, for me at least.

War
Chick with gun.. you are screwed buddy. PRE-NUP DAMMIT.

Firstly when I say WAR I actually mean ACTION. As in, exciting cutscenes of massive battles and kickass pwnership. I guess a good example would be any fight scence from 1)Ghost In The Shell 2)Full Metal Panic or 3)FLCL(the hospital fight scene reminds me of Dead Leaves).

Full Metal Panic and FLCL have a comedic element which I enjoy and Ghost In The Shell just has sheer kickass awesomeness. You might think, “That’s weird, i’ve seen way cooler fight scenes in INSERT ANIME I HAVEN’T SEEN HERE”, as you may gather I haven’t seen every show under the sun.

I’ve gotta say the Appleseed movies, Vexille and all the Ghost In The Shell movies make for some kickass watching. They are pretty much awesome in style and execution.

I would love… and I mean LOOOVEEEEE, to see an anime that had EPIC BATTLES OF IMMENSITY. I mean like huge battles that are highly detailed and all orchastrated to background music of Daft Punk. That would be my ultimate want.

Take some Daft Punk music, add a kickass style of anime that makes everything look like it is made from unformed brushstrokes then mix in a snowy scene and four heroes who are being chased by the military. Make them run and fight to the beats of Daft Punk until they reach the control center for the evil empire’s TV brainwashing. Make them break in and change the brainwashing for a Daft Punk music video before blowing the center sky high. Awesome.

Anywho that was a bit off topic.

Lolis
Oh yes beaches are fun for the whole family.

The second drawcard was LOLIS. They are too cute. Also amusing. Just downright funny and cool. Plus nothing beats a loli wearing neko ears and mittens.

Shows such as Ichigo Mashimaro, Lucky Star, Shakugan no Shana and Sky Girls all feature lolis and their antics. Go watch them for ultimate awesomeness.

Comedy
I love family times.

Finally COMEDY. I will give any show a chance if it has some comedic quality to it. Shows such as Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei(also Zoku), Kyouka Kazoku Nikki and even Dead Leaves.

A lot of shows have comedic parts in them, which is kind of like Mario finding refuge on a lone brick while he’s trying to jump over those damn flames while dodging the frickin missiles ARGGGH so aggrevating. But yeah, I like to have the comedy there.. it makes a lot of shows interesting and or bearable for me.

Wordplay is awesome.

Nothing beats sitting down to watch a show that is in a different language and badly subbed but still makes you laugh or cry or feel elated or makes you want to learn martial arts and sorcery.

As a side note… watch Paprika on Blu-ray and be amazed. Enjoy. Also check out the insane amount of categories I put this in. Ridiculous.

New Ideas?

I’ve been thinking about new projects and sites that could benefit the anime/manga blogging community and could help to grow it. These are sites which add value so to speak to the user experience as well as boost the ways in which contributors can share.

A good example of a ‘value-adding’ site would be MyAnimeList. MAL as it’s known to many, is an anime and manga community that introduces you to people, anime, manga, and helps you organize your collections. Features of the site include an extensive anime and manga database, recommendations and reviews and being able to connect with other members around you. MAL is often referenced to and many anime/manga bloggers use it frequently.

Currently underway is the Anime Blog Awards which is another site aimed at increasing exposure for bloggers in particular and giving them something extra to do and have fun with. The exciting thing about the Anime Blog Awards for me has been finding new blogs which i’ve never even heard of. As of today there are 190 bloggers listed. This can help us to see the size of the community as a whole rather then in seperate blog groups.

Shugo Chara is 4 the oarsomes?

I have a project coming up which I have asked a few (Lupus-sol, mike(Michael), Nagato and RyanA) to take a look at it and suggest any changes. It’s great to have good sounding boards to work with. The plan involves an e-zine format site, featuring fresh articles by different authors each month. Voting on articles will be available and the winner for each month will win a prize or prizes from that month’s sponsor. In the final month of the year (the 12th month of the e-zine) a grand prize voting round will begin and all the posts from the year will be up for voting again. Multiple winners will be chosen from among the writers as well as perhaps voters.

This site is something that I hope will help boost awareness of the community. There is also the encouragement to write something different then your normal style or topic. Each month will feature a broad topic which you can write under and it would be awesome to see authors stretching themselves. There will also be an editing team who will work with the authors to ensure that the quality (in terms of spelling, grammar and logic) of the article is up to standard.

This is just one idea that I have and hope to implement very soon. But it would be great to see more ideas starting to form out there and get made. The one scary thing can be if you have a great idea but can’t implement it. As much as you may want to hold the idea to yourself it seriously works out best if you share with those that can help. Talk to your web savvy friends, talk to those who have started these projects to help you think through your plans.

So many people have cursed at themselves in anger when they find that their “great idea” has been “pinched” because they haven’t done anything about it. DO NOT DELAY PEOPLE! Get creating! It’s fun, rewarding and can lead to greater things.

If you know of any projects out there which aim to add value to the anime/manga community then please post them in a comment!
