Wordpress 2.6 WHY DO PEOPLE BAW?

I noticed that the newest version of Wordpress is out today. I was excited and why not? This new version has resolved the flash uploader issue by giving you a choice, it now features page and post revisions, it makes use of Google Gears to speed up load times if you choose, there is theme previews, a word counter, bulk management of plugins, better image management and much more.

So with all these great features why do people BAWWWWWWWW?! I have a theory. People hate change. It’s that bloody simple. They got used to the old UI for example and can’t handle the jandal hence the thousands of posts about hating the new layout and how it sucks. The point is the software is making PROGRESS. Wordpress is becoming an even better CMS to work with. Deal with it.

So do you plan to upgrade soon? If you’ve recently upgraded to 2.5 or 2.6 what are your thoughts on the new features?

    To be honest, Wordpress 2.6 really crept up on me but that is because of my recent laziness of keeping up with the scene and my theme development. 2.5 was a very easy transition and I loved the new features. The new layout took a bit to get used to but in the end I used Fluency for my admin anyways. 2.6 didn’t do so much in the UI to me (at least nothing amazingly drastic). I like the gears, makes it run a lot faster and the captions. Pretty cool update and I really await the next one. Perhaps then I could be ready for it.

    Yeah, I used to find updating a tedious exercise. I’ve switched to using SVN to update Wordpress now though. It makes the process SIMPLE. All I do is tell it to update (in command line) to the latest stable version (ie. 2.6) and WHOOOOOSH in less then 30 seconds my files are updated. Then I just run the normal update.php and voila! All done :D! I feel more secure with my system in a sense.
