Anime Blog Awards
So I thought I better write a post about it :D! I am involved so it’s probably a good idea. As you know it’s an event for Blogger by Bloggers and we hope to get as many involved as possible. There has been some issues but Impz has addressed those as best as possible. Anywho you can check out some new banners I whipped up and some that Impz made:
I thought i’d shower everyone with some statistics. They aren’t accurate but they give an idea of the numbers involved. I’m sure i’ll be posting on the proper results once they are compiled. Poor Akai is tiredface and doing all the bean counting -.-!
Since the beginning of the awards (somewhere around a month ago) 150+ bloggers have signed up to be part of the nomination process. Most of you who have signed up are running your own blog and I think we only have a couple of cases of multiple authors from one blog signing up (this is ok btw).
We experienced the dramas of the faux DORAMA from the ABC which may or may not have affected the ABA. They are two seperate entities if you didn’t know already. Anywho over the month of nominating we had somewhere in the region of 850+ nomination comments. I think you could probably double that number for the number of actual votes considering most people posted more then one nomination per comment. Heck it could be triple that number.
According to Google apparentely our top search query is Best Manga. I don’t have access to the server stats at the moment but i’ll try get them off Akai for my next ABA post.
The site is based on the brilliant work by Derek Punsalan and his Grid Focus theme. I altered it around a bit and I made most of the graphics on the site as it is now. There are a few changes i’d like to make to it but I’m short on time. I have to finalise the award badges today as well as creating the People’s Choice Award. I’m thinking of a complete site redesign once this year’s event is over. Not to mention I think we will be running an Indie version in a few months.
The one major thing I have gotten out of the Awards are all the new blogs i’ve now seen. It’s amazing how my bookmarks have grown. I DIDN’T KNOW YOU GUYS WERE OUT THERE D:! It’s awesome to see! Reading blogs now takes me ages :P!
It’s kind of cool to be part of the Awards. It’s neat to see a better overview of who is out there in the Anime Blogosphere. As of yet I haven’t seen a very definitive chart or statistical analysis on the numbers of people who publish and those who read. It would be nice if there was some sort of site that could show us the extent of the community.
But anywho, I’ll write up another post once we begin the Voting. Also if anyone wants to have a crack at design ideas for the ABA I’m all ears. :D!

Blog sharing at mellowSPACE
I’ve seen a few anime blogs around that perhaps have slowed in their post frequency from lack of interest or perhaps not wanting the pressure of full blog ownership. I’m always open to writers jumping on mellowSPACE. It’s a no pressure environment and you can post as much or as little as you want. I’m open to all your suggestions and I don’t charge ;D!
If you are interested then let me know on IRC or leave a comment here. The process depends on what you want to do but I’m able to copy over any posts that you’ve previously made so that they stay with you. That’s what I did with JTFish anyways, I upgraded his blog then exported and re-imported his posts into mellowSPACE. Hahaha he never used categories though you see =_=~! So I ended up going through all his posts. It was awesome.
Anyway if you are looking to reduce the stress on your blogging life but still be in the game then drop me a message.

AnimeBlogger.NET Donation Drive
The following post was copied from here with permission. GOGO DONATION DRIVE :D!
Time to start putting something back into the box
AnimeBlogger.net has always been supportive of new writers all over the world to establish their blog for free. As we continue to expand and include new bloggers to the anime blogosphere, we have reached a point where advertising dollars are not enough to pay for the hosting services.
Hence, we have decided to appeal for donations to cover the taxes and hosting fees of AnimeBlogger.net. The first goal is to raise US$1600 to cover three months of hosting and the taxes applicable to AnimeBlogger.net. When we have secured that amount, we are looking into adding another server in order to accommodate more writers, which is where the second goal comes in. If we reach our second goal of US$2200, we’ll be able to add another server.
If you are wondering how you can donate to us, there are various ways. First, you can directly donate to the site via Amazon or Paypal from our donations page. Second, you can buy AnimeBlogger.net merchandise. As an incentive to those who donate, everyone who donates more than $5 will be entered to win a prize. Currently we have a sponsor that’s paying for two AnimeBlogger.net shirts for winners. You can also contribute any anime-related items as prizes for the lucky draw.
AnimeBlogger.net needs your help. Everyone is integral to the support of AnimeBlogger.net. Every little bit counts to hit our target, be it $1 or $100. You will make a difference. Thank you and please continue to explore our anime blogging community!
Donation Meter Plugin
We encourage you to let others know about AB’s donation drive, and to help with that we have a Wordpress plugin available that you can use to put a donation meter on your sidebar. The donation meter shows the the current donation amount in green, a bar extends out to the first goal in red, then the second goal’s in yellow. The plugin pulls its data from our servers so it’ll update itself as we get donations in.
To install the plugin on your blog, first save the plugin file and change the extension from .phps to .php. Now upload this file to your wp-content/plugins directory. Then you activate it and add the following code to your sidebar wherever you want it to appear:
<? php dd_display(170); ?>
The number specifies how many pixels wide the donation meter should be, so change the 170 to something slightly less than your sidebar’s width. The plugin outputs all the necessary code, with the header being an <h2> and the meter itself enclosed in <ul> tags. (We choses these because they’re the most common.) If you need to change these you’ll need to edit the plugin code to do so, but it’s really straightforward. Finally, there’s a set of sayings that the plugin will randomly put below the donation meter itself, here’s the default ones:
$sayings[] = ‘Just a bit more guys!’;
$sayings[] = ‘It can\’t hurt to help!’;
$sayings[] = ‘Be a pal, a PayPal!’;
$sayings[] = ‘We need money. Badly. :(’;
$sayings[] = ‘Keep us in business.’;
$sayings[] = ‘Feel good; lend a hand.’;
Feel free to change these or add new ones if you’d like.
(Note: single quote marks in the text will need to have a \ in front of them.)
Help us out by donating to AnimeBlogger.NET, and keep our anime blogging world going!

The Battle Commences: V-Day 0001 GMT+12 February 14th
To many, Valentines day is a day of celebrating one’s love for another. For others it is a day to share with many in a spirit of love and friendship, and still to many more it is a day no different from any other. I’m pretty certain that 70% of the Otaku population doesn’t care about Valentines Day. Not unless there are special releases on this day or they see hawt animu girlz harping on about it.

I had planned to write an epic post about the history of Valentines Day. But you know what… I can’t be stuffed. I guess I fall into the category of Otaku that don’t care. In other news have some pictures to compensate.
